The last two years have been phenomenal. The ball started rolling at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis February 2011 and it is still gathering momentum. Playing festivals and other dates from the Pacific Ocean, on the last West Coast Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, all the way to Paris (France, not Texas) and everywhere in between, the Lionel Young band has been carving out a unique sound never before heard in the blues world. Or any other, for that matter. Violin, trumpet, sax, bass and drums? You’ve got to be kidding! That’s what any one would say, right? Scroll down and see what folks are saying AFTER the show. Better yet, check out the music for yourself – why talk about music? Have a listen!

  1. Discovered boogie-woogie Gold in Dahlonega, GA! What a Great Surprise to have a perfect seat for an outstanding performance – y’all made our weekend!

  2. Caught LYB at the Winthrop Blues Festival in North central Washington. Just “blue” us away! Earned the only spontaneous standing ovation I saw during the three-day event. Bought their CDs and will make every effort to catch them on stage again. Looking forward to another great set!

  3. OK — will try to catch up on some of your stuff — just wanted to mention that I saw Kim Stone playing with ‘Rare Silk’ in Denver around 1982 at a concert club as the opening act for ‘Spyra Gyra’ which I guess is where & how Kim hooked up with them. Then a few years later I was at the jazz series at Red Rocks and there was Kim playing with ‘The Rippingtons’ — Myself I am just a former bass player (coming from the lower brass including tuba) who now plays a nice 4 mallet Musser vibe here in Thailand for my own enjoyment.

  4. Saw you for the 1st time in Laughlin at the Blues and Brews at the Colorado Belle. You guys were so great. I have been at all the shows there since it started and it good to see new talent. Cool Cool

  5. Quite simply, one of the best artists around … I’ve been blessed to see and hear Lionel Young a few times in the Denver area, and he never ceases to amaze me with his talent and showmanship, as well as his dignity, humility and sense of humor

I mean, really, this says it all:
